Exfoliating Foot Scrub with Essential Oils
Tired and achy feet are common complaints, especially for those who have jobs that required standing all day. One of my favorite ways to manage my foot care is through gentle exfoliation, also known as a foot scrub. A simple walk on the beach can provide this, but since most of us do not have beaches easily available on a regular basis, a homemade foot scrub to remove dead skin is a great alternative.
So you may be wondering, how do you make a homemade foot
scrub? Check out this amazing DIY exfoliating foot scrub recipe that will leave
you feeling relaxed and refreshed in no time.
Ingredients
• 1 cup of
sea salt
• 1
tablespoon olive oil
• 1
tablespoon coconut oil
• 5 drops
tea tree oil
• 5 drops
peppermint essential oil
• 5 drops
lavender essential oil
Foot Scrub Instructions
Place the sea salt in a medium or large glass bowl. Add the
olive oil and coconut oil. Blend the mixture with a fork or spoon. Olive oil
has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also an antioxidant, provides vitamin E
and is a great moisturizer. Coconut oil is antimicrobial and offers amazing
healing properties and makes a fantastic moisturizer for the skin.
Next, add the essential oils. Tea tree essential oil is
amazing at healing the skin! It helps heal any inflammation of the skin and is
antibacterial. It’s also effective at removing foot odor. Peppermint essential
oil can help with that foot odor too. Plus it also offers some soothing benefits
as it helps to relax all those muscles in the feet. Lavender essential oil will
give you an even deeper sense of relaxation while helping relieve aches and
pains. Combine all ingredients well.
Transfer the ingredients into a jar with a tight lid. Store
in a cool, dark place to help preserve the ingredients. You can even keep it in
the fridge. Just make sure to label it properly.
To use it, scrub the mixture onto your feet (you can even
use the scrub on your ankles and calves!). Place a small amount in your hand
with a spoon. Try not to dip the spoon into the container to avoid bacterial
growth since there are no preservatives. You may want to do this in the shower
or tub to avoid dripping the foot scrub mixture on the floor. Just make sure
you are seated and relaxed. To maximize the benefits, leave the scrub on for
10–15 minutes and just relax.
Once done, rinse with warm water, then gently pat dry. You
will likely feel a very refreshing, cooling feeling from the peppermint. That’s
perfect! Apply my moisturizer and allow it to dry.
Keep in mind if the cracks and peeling skin are severe, you
may want to talk to your doctor first since there could be a more serious issue
at hand. But in most cases, a gentle foot scrub can be comforting, provide
relaxation, is an excellent stress-reliever and can help you achieve more
attractive feet.
While you can hit a foot spa, the cost can add up quickly.
Making your own foot scrub is a great way to take care of your feet right in
your own home and is much cheaper. Additionally, you can control the
ingredients in the recipe, avoiding the chemicals that are often found in
commercial products.
